Before the year ended, we went on a Chinatown adventure! I reconnected with my friend, Claudia. We met each other years ago at City College of San Francisco (CCSF). It’s been a while since we hung out. I also met a lot of awesome new people during this photowalk. There was Sam, Kristina, Alex, and Sarah.
Here are my photos from that day. 😀
Enjoy!
What a great view!
Walking the Stockton Street tunnel.
Making our way.
Almost there.
We made it! First stop, take some pictures. Then, food! 😛
We were already window shopping. It was a really nice day!
The Transamerica Building! Always a sight to see.
Folks out and about on a Saturday morning.
Snapping away. Trying to find good angles and whatnot.
Muni and the colorful buildings of Chinatown.
Claudia shared a lot of history with us. Plus she shared her Chinatown experiences. She grew up in this part of town. Pictured: Claudia and Kristina.
Childhood memories. White rabbit was my favorite! And the tamarind candy.
We stopped by several markets to explore their selection.
Dropped in at the post office.
The staff was super nice. Pictured: Kristina, Alex, Sam, and Claudia.
We continued walking after the post office.
Looked at the dried goods in this market. It was pretty pricey. Lots of medicinal properties from what Claudia told us.
We were all super curious.
A very busy spot for dim sum.
Here’s another angle. We didn’t go to this one. We went next door.
Look at that.
We got chicken wings and some pork ribs. It was delicious!
We ended up at a bakery to get some other things.
Alex and his tray.
I waited outside with Alex because everyone else ordered drinks.
I bought a pineapple bun, this pastry with ham, and more sesame balls. MY FAVE!
Walking to the park. Muni busses!
This cool mural.
So many colorful decorations.
Stopped by another dim sum spot. We wanted soup dumplings.
Found a lot of cute red envelopes.
The fortune cookie company! Fond memories from 4th grade.
The line wasn’t too bad.
Great to see it again!
So many cool alleys. The murals are wonderful!
So many photo opportunities.
The red lanterns are my favorite.
Tourists out and about.
We made it to Portsmouth Square! We get to sit and eat.
This mural caught my eye.
Claudia let us try the durian crepe/cake she ordered. It was really good! Some folks weren’t digging it, which is understandable. Definitely an acquired taste.
Kristina’s reaction.
She ate some oranges to get rid of the taste.
Alex’s turn. From what I can remember, I think he liked it!
Claudia bought fresh durian.
Cutting it open.
I definitely liked the crepe/cake more so than the fresh durian. It had a kick!
JOY!
Sarah taking pictures on her phone.
Look at that!
Pretty lanterns.
Walking down another alley.
Kristina is now taller than Alex. 🙂
Sweet art.
Sam the explorer. What a cool ship!
I spotted Timmy!! 😀
Did some more walking. Heard some fireworks being set off.
You can see the smoke on the right side. It was loud!
So many cute things. Even found Totoro! 🙂
Walking down Waverly Place.
So in love with the colors.
Claudia used to frequent this bakery when she was young. It had a different name.
Cool tea is a really good boba spot! I love my boba.
Willie “Woo Woo” Wong playground. Cool mural!
Spotted the monkey king!
Claudia.
Kristina.
So many lucky cats.
Canton Bazaar.
These slippers were super popular when I was in high school. That was ages ago, lol.
This lovely group was playing beautiful music. They asked us to play and we politely declined.
Hello, Ferry Building!
Kristina had her fortune read by Confucius. Reminded me of Big.
Spotted another cool mural. We missed a few on our list.
We ended our adventure at Li Po. Anthony Bourdain featured it on his show.
It was a long day for us, but we all enjoyed it! There’s so much more to see.
We’re hoping to photograph more areas of the city. SF ❤
Thanks for stopping by.
